The family of a murdered Melbourne woman may finally be given some closure after 33-years of agony as detectives edge closure to recovering her body.
Jodie Larcombe was just 21 when she was abducted and killed by Daryl Suckling. The now 84-year-old was convicted of Ms Larcombe’s murder in 1996 and sentenced to life behind bars after he was arrested in 1994.
Ms Larcombe was last seen on December 22 1987 near Coburg.
It has been more than three decades since she vanished and despite extensive investigations, including combing remote bushland near Mildura on the Victoria and NSW border, police are yet to locate her remains.
Detectives, forensic experts, the Public Order and Riot Squad and the Dog Unit will begin searching the land near Mourquong on Friday after receiving a fresh lead.
The search is expected to last several days.
Homicide Squad Commander detective superintendent, Danny Doherty, said police want nothing more than to provide the family with some closure.
“It has been more than three decades since Jodie’s murder and detectives would like nothing more than to return her remains to her family, so they may finally lay her to rest,” he said.
“The NSW Police Force will always thoroughly investigate new information in relation to the location of missing and deceased persons, even when a conviction has occurred.
