Wei Yee turned to dealing cocaine and MDMA after he started using drugs himself and fell in with the wrong crowd.
The 28-year-old engineer was nabbed with $2380 after dealing cocaine in June 2019.
His Burwood East home was raided shortly after.
Not only did officers find significant quantities of drugs, but a search revealed more than $529,890 cash hidden in a bedroom and in suitcases under the house.
The cash was packed, vacuum sealed and put in the luggage, the court was told.
"Your conduct was substantially driven by greed," Victorian County Court Judge Kevin Doyle said on Friday.
He said Yee had succumbed to a "false glamour" about dealing drugs, but had shown remorse and had insight into his offending.
The sentence would "weigh heavily" on the young man who had no prior criminal history, Judge Doyle said. Yee pleaded guilty to three counts of trafficking a drug of dependence and one of knowingly deal with proceeds of crime.
He was jailed for four years but must serve at least two years before he is eligible for parole. He has already spent 40 days behind bars.

Good that they caught him, though I like to say I would love to have that much money stashed somewhere in my home (legally of course).
